Youth STEM Camps
WWEST offers a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)camps during local school breaks (winter, spring and summer). These camps introduce youth to STEM through engaging, confidence-building, and exploration based activites. Camps are unique to themes, and can be attended daily or weekly! See details below.

Summer STEM Explorers (ages 5-8—grades 1-3 as of September 2025) June 30-August 27, no camps July 1 and August 4 *Register for a day, a week or multiple days over different weeks! We understand the need for flexibility in your summer plans. Activities will align with weekly themes and provide a wide variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities daily! Each day will get their minds and bodies moving as they participate in hands-on learning and movement breaks. *Each week will have new activities ensuring campers will have different experiences if participating over multiple weeks. |
STEM Exploration (in partnership with Canucks Autism Network (CAN) (ages 5-12) June 30-July 4 & August 5-8 (NO camp TUESDAY, JULY 1 -or- MONDAY, AUG 4) We are excited to partner with the Canucks Autism Network (CAN) to provide half-day camps for children with Autism with high adult to youth ratios. These camps will explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) through a hands-on approach including movement breaks. · Cost: $350/week · Hours: 9:00am-12:00pm OR 1:00-4:00pm · Additional before care from 8:00-9:00 is available for extra cost. *Further details and registration is through CAN (https://canucksautism.ca/) |
STEM-letics! (ages 5-12) July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25, and July 28-August 1 (weekly registration required) We are excited to partner with UBCO Athletics to offer a week of STEM-Letics Summer Camp. This camp combines the excitement of athletics with the curiosity of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)! This unique camp offers a perfect blend of skill-based sports activities in the morning and hands-on STEM exploration in the afternoon. Each morning, campers will develop their core skills in running, jumping, and throwing through fun interactive multi-sport games. Using the Run, Jump, Throw, Wheel (RJTW) framework from Athletics Canada, coaches will teach fundamental movement skills to enhance physical literacy in an inclusive and supportive environment. In the afternoons, the focus shifts to STEM discovery! Campers will dive into interactive activities that focus on the science of movement, body systems, technology, and learning activities related to the STEM behind sport performance. These hands-on learning experiences will encourage problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork, with movement breaks and social interaction woven in throughout the day. Girls in STEM (ages 9-12) August 5-8 (daily registration options) This camp is designed to spark interest and encourage young girls and those identifying as female, to feel empowered to explore, create and challenge thinking through interactive activities, encompassing concepts from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). |
Exploration into Health and Medicine (ages 9-12) August 11-15 (daily registration options) Join us for adventures in health and medical-based STEM! Participants will hear from guest presenters in the field of health and medicine and experience daily hands-on learning activities related to dentistry, nursing, neuroscience, and more! |
Intro to Health and Medicine (ages 14-18) August 11-15 (daily registration options) Join WWEST/iSTAND and their partner, UBCO South Medical Program, for adventures in health and medical-based STEM! Participants will benefit from daily interactions with researchers and lab partners, campus tours/activities, and hands-on STEM learning activities. This camp is offered to people aged 14-18 who are interested in health care and medical fields, or simply looking for a fun filled day of learning and adventure at UBCO! |
Eco Explorers (ages 9-12) August 18-22 (daily registration options) Participants will engage in activities from plant identification (including Indigenous names and uses), sustainability, biodiversity, forestry, wildlife, watersheds, greenhouses, and general interaction with nature. Partnerships with the Regional Parks systems will highlight leanring and opportunities throughout the region. This camp connects participants to STEM and nature in fun and interactive ways. |
Creative Coding (ages 9-12) August 25-27 (daily registration options) These camps will encourage creativity through coding and offer opportunities each day to work with Edisons, Ozobots, Mice Robots, Micro:bits, Makey Makey, Backyard Brains, Finch robots, and more! Each day, new ideas and challenges will be presented, along with a variety of movement breaks to keep the mind and body active and engaged. |
Cancellation/Refund Policy:
We know unforeseen circumstances arise and wish to note that although refunds are not available, as supplies and staffing are determined based on registrations, transfer of funds to another WWEST/iSTAND event may be possible if notice is received at least one week prior to the first day of camp.
If a child is sick, and there is space in another camp, we will do our best to accommodate a transfer within the same camp session (for example, a Winter camp day for another Winter camp day).

CAMP FAQ's
($5/Are there extended care options available?
Early drop-off (8-8:30 am) $5/day, and late pick-up (3-4 pm) $10/day. You can add this option on the registration. If plans change and you need to add extended care at a later date. please contact wwest.ok@ubc.ca. Alternatively, you can speak with the camp leader at the beginning of each week.
What do participants need to bring to camp?
Participants are required to bring personal NUT FREE snacks and lunch items as well as a water bottle.
Weather permitting, we will spend daily time outdoors so please bring appropriate clothing according to the temperature and conditions of the day. Sunscreen and a hat would are good optional items to pack along as well for Summer camps.
It is preferable that personal electronics are not brought to camp. Should participants arrive with personal electronics, please note that WWEST, iSTAND, and UBC will not be responsible for any loss or damage to them.
What COVID or other sickness policy is in place?
Current COVID 19 provincial and local regulations will be in place for the duration of camp. Please note that participants may be sent home if they display symptoms of illness or non-compliance with safety measures. WWEST/iSTAND will have masks and sanitizer available for those who do not bring their own, and wish to use them.
Who can I contact if I need to connect with my child during camp?
For camp-specific emergencies (eg. notification of absence, alternate adult picking up) please contact our team at wwest.ok@ubc.ca or the Neuromuscular Physiology Lab (250) 807-9884.
Are refunds available?
We know unforeseen circumstances arise and wish to note that although refunds are not available, as supplies and staffing are determined based on registrations, transfer of funds to another WWEST/iSTAND event will be possible if notice is received at least one week prior to the first day of camp.
If a child is sick, and there is space in another camp, we will do our best to accommodate a transfer within the same camp session (for example, a Spring camp day for another Spring camp day, NOT a Summer camp day).
